5 SIGNS TO LOOK FOR IN IVDD

Five signs your dog might have Inter-Vertebral Disc Disease

Inter-Vertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a condition that affects the discs that sit between your dog's vertebrae. These discs act as shock absorbers, and over time they can deteriorate, which can cause a lot of pain for your furry friend. If you're concerned that your dog might have IVDD, here are five signs to look out for:

  1.  Your dog is walking funny. If you notice your dog is walking with a stiff gait or dragging his hind legs, it could be a sign of IVDD.
  2. Your dog is whining or whimpering more than usual. Pain is one of the most common signs of IVDD, so if you notice your dog is experiencing more discomfort than usual, it could be a sign that something's wrong.
  3. Your dog is urinating or defecating in unusual places. If your normally well-behaved dog starts having accidents in the house, it could be a sign that he's in too much pain to make it outside. Sometimes they just cannot make it over the stoop.
  4. Your dog isn't interested in food or play. If your dog has lost his appetite or doesn't seem interested in playing like he used to, it could be a sign that he's in pain and doesn't feel well.
  5. Your dog is restless and can't seem to get comfortable. If you notice your dog pacing or panting more than usual, it could be a sign that he's in pain and just can't find a comfortable position.

If you suspect your dog might have IVDD, it's important to take him to the vet right away for an examination. The sooner you catch the condition, the better chance you have of successfully treating it and helping your furry friend feel better again!
