HOW TO HELP YOUR DOG WITH CAR SICKNESS

Taking your dog for a car ride can be a fun and exciting adventure. But for some dogs, car rides can also be a source of stress and anxiety - especially if they suffer from motion sickness. If your pup gets carsick, don't worry! There are plenty of things you can do to help them feel more relaxed and comfortable on the road.

Keep it Short & Sweet at First

If your pup has had bad experiences in the past, it's best to start slow. Begin by taking short trips around the block or even just around the driveway. As their confidence grows, gradually extend the length of each trip until you reach your desired destination. This will help your pup become accustomed to being in the car and lessen their chances of getting sick while traveling.

Feed Before You Leave

Feeding your pet before leaving on long trips is always a good idea. A full stomach will help keep them calm during periods of increased motion, making them less likely to get carsick during the ride. Just make sure not to feed them too close to departure time; otherwise, they'll be uncomfortable due to indigestion.

Take Breaks Along the Way

Long drives can take a toll on anyone, so it's important to make sure that you're taking breaks along the way too! Stopping every few hours gives both you and your pup time to stretch their legs and explore new areas together (while also allowing them time away from any motion-induced nausea). Plus, this extra exercise can help tire out your furry friend, so they feel better overall during travel time as well!

What can you give your dog to help reduce car sickness?

In the past I would have recommended “Junket Tablets”. These could be found in the bakery aisle of your Supermarket. Over the past decade these have been harder to source. Junket is actually a pudding for humans. Now I find one of the easiest ways to reduce car sickness with your furry dog is to give Ted & Co Hemp. Give the normal daily dose and then an hour before travelling give a few more drops.

Keeping your dog seated high so they can see out the window plus get plenty of fresh air is another way to reduce the car sickness.

Traveling with a dog who suffers from car sickness doesn't have to be an unpleasant experience! With some patience and preparation, you can help reduce their anxiety and make sure that everyone enjoys the journey together - regardless of how far it takes you both! Whether it's taking shorter trips at first or scheduling regular breaks along the way, these tips will ensure that all roads lead to happy travels for everyone involved!

  • I have been using Tedandco hemp oil drops for my big girl Gracie (boxer cross) I give her 20 drops and hour before we head out to doggy daycare, and we have no nausea or vomiting in the car. Last week I ran out of drops and Gracie was so sick in the car going to doggy daycare, I felt like the worst mom. It’s safe to say I will never run out again and put Gracie througj that again.
