PET PROOF YOUR XMAS TREE AND DECORATIONS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

With Christmas fast approaching, many of us will be setting up our holiday decorations—including a beautiful tree. But if you have pets, particularly dogs, then you know that they love to get in on the fun. That’s why it’s important to pet proof your tree and decorations before your four-legged companions join in the festivities. Here are some tips for making sure your tree and decorations stay safe and sound this holiday season.

Secure the Tree

One of the most important steps to pet proofing your Xmas tree is making sure it's secure. If you have a real tree, use a sturdy base to keep it from tipping over when your pup gets curious. You can also anchor it into place with fishing line or twine just to be extra sure that it won't topple if an enthusiastic pup decides to jump up for a closer look. Artificial trees should come with a stand designed for stability, but you may want to weigh down the base of your tree with sandbags or heavy books for added security.

Keep Out of Reach

When decorating your tree, make sure that any fragile ornaments are placed high enough so that they're out of reach from wagging tails and curious noses (anything at least 6 feet off the ground should do). This also applies to sharp tinsel and garland strands; if ingested by pets, these can cause serious injury or even death. If you have particularly mischievous pets who tend to knock ornaments off the tree no matter how high they are placed, consider using larger plastic shatterproof ornaments instead. You'll still get all the festive holiday vibes without having to worry about broken glass shards littering your floor!

Be Mindful of Electrical Hazards

Electrical cords can be hazardous around pets—especially cats who like to chew on them—so make sure that all electrical cords are tucked away safely out of reach from furry friends. A good rule of thumb is to cover any exposed wires with PVC tubing or zip ties so that there's not even an ounce of temptation for pets who like to chew on things (we know who we're talking about!). Keeping unplugged strings out of sight is also a good idea; stray wires without their plugs can be very tempting playthings for cats and dogs alike.

Presents

It might be prudent to not put out any of the wrapped gifts until the morning of Xmas. Dogs certainly like to explore and will steal any gift whilst the parents are away. Most years we hear of dogs ingesting Chocolate, Raisons and other toxic items causing expensive vet visits for our furry friends and families.

If looking at purchasing treats for your dog or a friends dog then be sure to get some safe ones. Check out Ted & Co Treats especially the Safe Roo Twists and Santas Doggy Xmas Pack. Again don't leave them under the tree as they are too nicer smelling to leave alone.

It's easy enough to pet proof your Xmas tree and decorations this holiday season! All it takes is a bit of planning ahead—plus some common sense—and you'll be able set up your home in festive style while keeping everyone safe (pets included).

By following these simple steps, you're guaranteed an enjoyable holiday season free from any unwanted surprises!

Merry Christmas!
